Free Slurpees Today? Yes! Here’s What to Know About 7/11 Day 2025

Free Slurpee Day 2025 promotion with Slurpee cup and tongue tattoo

Washington: Who is giving away free frozen drinks? What is the promotion? When does it take place? Where can you claim it? Why is it being held? And how can you get it? On Friday, 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores across the U.S. are celebrating Slurpee Day 2025—also known as 7-Eleven Day—by offering a free small Slurpee to all customers, no purchase necessary.

The giveaway marks the 98th birthday of the convenience store chain, which first opened in Dallas in 1927. Since 2002, 7-Eleven has commemorated its anniversary with a free Slurpee giveaway on July 11, a nod to the brand’s 7/11 name. This year’s promotion includes special perks for 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members, who will also receive a coupon for another free Slurpee redeemable until July 31, and in select cities, a quirky new bonus—Slurpee-activated tongue tattoos.

How to Claim Your Free Slurpee on 7/11 Day

Customers can stop by any participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes store on Friday and ask for their free small Slurpee. No purchase or app is required for the in-store promotion, though rewards members are encouraged to scan their apps to access additional benefits, including a second free drink coupon.

Rewards members can redeem their second Slurpee through July 31, 2025.

Where to Get Slurpee Day Tongue Tattoos

As a unique feature for Slurpee Day 2025, 7-Eleven is giving out “Tongue-toos”—temporary tongue tattoos that appear in blue, red, green, or purple after sipping a Slurpee. These are available only for 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members in select cities, including:

  • 7-Eleven locations: Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Diego, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
  • Speedway locations: Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Grand Rapids, Louisville, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and more.

“This year’s celebrations are a little different than years past, as 7-Eleven is also offering customers a tongue tattoo — deemed tongue-too — that’s activated by the Slurpee,” wrote Krys Shahin for TEGNA.

The History Behind Slurpee Day

Slurpees trace their origin to the 1960s, when Kansas entrepreneur Omar Knedlik invented a semi-frozen soda machine. 7-Eleven licensed his idea in 1965, modified the machine, and branded the drink as the “Slurpee”—named for the slurping sound it makes.

“Advertising executive Bob Stanford gave the sweet, icy drink the name for the sound it makes as it is sucked through a straw,” according to the National Day Calendar.
