Los Angeles: Odyssey, in partnership with Callaway, has unveiled a limited-edition Happy Gilmore hockey stick putter, nearly 30 years after the original became iconic in Adam Sandler’s 1996 golf comedy. The launch celebrates the upcoming release of Happy Gilmore 2, which hits Netflix on July 25.
Available in restricted quantities, the Odyssey Happy Gilmore putter will retail for $500 and be sold exclusively at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy from July 11 to July 24, before expanding to Callaway retailers. A non-conforming putter due to its flat-back design, it’s nonetheless generating buzz among collectors and fans for its screen-accurate specs and nostalgic appeal.
“We’re thrilled to announce these outstanding limited-edition Odyssey hockey stick putters and Callaway golf balls inspired by the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 movie coming to Netflix,” said Nick McInally, Callaway’s vice president of global marketing.
“It’s so exciting for us to be part of one of the most iconic golf franchises and to be able to update the famous Hockey Stick Putter, as well as bring the exclusive Chrome Tour Balls to the market.”
Callaway’s Happy Gilmore Putter Is a Slap-Shot to the Past
The Callaway Happy Gilmore putter pays homage to the original hockey stick-style club used by Sandler’s character, Happy, in the 1996 film. In the movie, Chubbs Peterson (played by the late Carl Weathers) gifts the club to Happy just before the climactic Tour Championship.
This 2025 release comes in at 44 inches long, has a 57° lie angle, 0° loft, and a 21-inch pistol grip. It’s closer in feel to a driver than a conventional putter — perfect for recreating Happy’s slap-shot style. The head, finished in black, white, and gold, is made from stainless steel and features Odyssey’s famous White Hot insert — the largest ever used. Two smaller inserts sit near the heel and toe for added forgiveness.
“Just tap it in,” reads the custom sock-style headcover, embroidered with Happy’s name and the film’s most quoted line.
Yes, There’s a Happy Gilmore 2 — and Yes, It Features This Putter
With the sequel’s release just weeks away, Odyssey confirmed that the new putter will appear in Happy Gilmore 2. The movie reunites Sandler with his slap-shot club in a fresh story arc, though few plot details have been released.
Also launching are limited-edition Chrome Tour golf balls priced at $60 per dozen. The balls are tournament-legal and include visuals like hockey sticks, jersey motifs, and beloved quotes:
- “Just tap it in”
- “It’s all in the hips”
“It’s so exciting for us to be part of one of the most iconic golf franchises,” McInally added.
“To be able to update the famous Hockey Stick Putter, as well as bring the exclusive Chrome Tour Balls to the market, is something really special.”
Happy Gilmore 2 Gear: Collector’s Items in the Making
The Odyssey Happy Gilmore 2 putter is not tournament legal, but that hasn’t stopped interest. The original run of Odyssey hockey stick putters in the 1990s was limited to 1,000. In 2024, a set of three autographed by Adam Sandler sold for $6,000 at Heritage Auctions.
“It stands to reason that after nearly 30 years Happy would need a putter upgrade, and Odyssey has delivered,” wrote Jack Hirsh of GOLF.
And it’s not just about fun. The Callaway Chrome Tour balls, featured in the sequel, are built for performance — low long-game spin, fast core, and stable flight. “Even Happy uses a Chrome Tour in the movie,” said a Callaway rep. The ball’s four-major pedigree adds credibility for players who want the mix of tour-grade quality and Happy’s flair.
