Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is “giving serious consideration” to revoking the citizenship of comedian Rosie O’Donnell, a U.S.-born citizen currently living in Ireland, escalating a decades-long personal feud.
In a Truth Social post published Saturday morning, Trump wrote, “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
O’Donnell, a New York native, has long been a vocal critic of Trump. The two have traded public barbs since 2006, when O’Donnell questioned Trump’s business ethics during a segment on The View. The feud resurfaced during Trump’s first presidential campaign and has continued into his current term.

O’Donnell Responds from Ireland
O’Donnell, who moved to Dublin in January 2025 following Trump’s second inauguration, responded with a video message on TikTok Saturday afternoon, rejecting the president’s comments.
“The POTUS ladies n gentlemen is a disgrace to all our beautiful country stands for – he is a danger to the nation – a mentally ill untreated criminal who lied to America for a decade on The Apprentice,” she said.
“Add me to the list of people who oppose him at every turn – it’s now or never America 🇺🇸.”
In earlier videos, O’Donnell said she would consider returning to the United States “when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.”
Legal Scholars: President Cannot Revoke Birthright Citizenship
Legal and constitutional experts swiftly dismissed the president’s remarks, citing the protections under the 14th Amendment.
“I know of no basis that could be used to strip Rosie O’Donnell of citizenship,” said Jonathan Turley, a professor at George Washington University Law School, in an email to Newsweek this morning.
